Server Room: Night Shift
You are the only technician on the floor from 23:00 to 05:00. The terminal in the break room hands out the jobs: patch cables on a rack's panel, swap a failing drive, hold a reset switch for four seconds, read a load meter and write the number down.
The patch panel is a small routing puzzle. Pairs of ports, a tray of cables with fixed lengths, and one rule per board: no crossing, same speed only, or through the switch. A sloppy patch holds for a while. Then the rack starts to beep, and the ticket comes back.
Each shift your clearance goes up and one more aisle opens. Each shift the tickets get a little stranger. Standing rule seven says never open rack A2-13. A few tickets later, one asks you to reboot it by 03:10. The handheld scanner shows racks that are not on the floor plan, and before long the tickets use their numbers.
Nothing chases you. You choose which instructions to follow, and the building keeps count.
Five shifts. Two endings, and a third for anyone who finishes what the scanner started. The free browser demo is the first shift.
Controls: W A S D to walk, mouse to look, E to use a rack or the terminal, hold E on a reset switch, Q raises the scanner, Tab lists your tickets, Esc pauses. On a patch panel, drag from a port to its partner.
Disclosure: the code and the ticket and story text were written with an AI coding agent under human direction, and the building announcements are text to speech. The art and the sound effects are generated by scripts, with no image or audio assets.
